but sometimes, you just can't get to snow!
So, we cart.
What is carting, you ask?
Well, it's a way to get out there & "run" dogs on dirt & other natural trails.
You use a wheeled rig - ours is a heavy mushers cart with four wheels & a metal platform & steering column. There are many variations, some built to varying degrees to accomodate large powerful teams (the heavier the cart, the more control you have), and others are built for speed and racing.

The two suppliers I've personally used the most are Black Ice and Nordkyn Outfitters.
Both are owned and run by fabulous people who themselves are very "into" working their dogs. They will gladly help you get set up properly - and safely - with the equipment right for your needs.

If you just have a dog or two, you can also "scooter" - a sport using a contraption not unlike a mountain bike, but with a scootering platform instead of the bike frame. There are more & more people discovering this sport, and it's a great way to get out with your dog - even if it's not a sled dog!! Some of the pictures you'll see here are of other teams using a scooter, with rather unusual breeds of "sled dogs"
