Gabe is my gentleman, and my first malamute. Born on May 17, 1999, I brought him home at just over 7 weeks old ... He has been a part of my heart and soul ever since. He was one of the two mellowest pups from his litter of 10 ... Little did we know <grin> But one thing has remained constant, his warm personality and HUGE heart.

Whether on the trail, in the obedience or agility ring, or especially in harness, Gabe is a working demon!! He's got so much "heart" it's almost scary, especially when combined with the enthusiasm of youth and the intelligence of a mal. But it certainly does make for an incredible experience. And his joy of the trail is contagious to both human and dog. But it can be a challenge ... especially when he tries to drag an 8-dog sled team up the hill just so he can pee on a tree! eeeHAAA!
Truly, Gabe has a special, rare quality - an love for work that's exceptional even for a malamute, and a working drive, spirit and ability that is hard to match! Last summer (2001) he nearly finished his packing title, and will once mom gets out there again, maybe even earn that excellent title! Weight pulling is next on the agenda, as is an obedience title or two. In the sledding arena, he got his Working Team Dog title his first season mushing (2000-01), and in the 2001-02 winter season garnered his Working Team Dog Excellent title running with his breeder's team - 212 miles in three weekends!! And true to form, Gabe was still ready for more! As the 2002-03 season begins, Gabe has already earned a leg on his Working Lead Dog title.
One thing that is truly amazing about this boy, is that despite his size, his power, and his boundless enthusiasm, he has a tremendous innate capacity for gentleness. Whether with pups, children or just taking treats from your hand, he is as gentle as a feather.
One thing Gabe always is, is happy. He has an enthusiasm for life that is hard to beat, and combined with his natural power and that "extra-something" in his heart & spirit, he is an unbeatable working companion! And a great cuddler and bed-warmer as well. Though when out & about, you can't take your eyes off him for a second, or he'll be dragging you down the trail <grin> He is exceptionally willing to please, and for being such a big guy, is very gentle and responsive - but you do have to keep reminding him not to watch - or chase! - that butterfly!!:-) (or squirrel or ... )

And watching him sail over jumps or stream across the field, there's a grace to that power that captures the eye and doesn't let go.
