An incredible journey across the ocean ...
Kobo, one of our first born kids, had a special destiny to fulfill. His mother, Yasuko, and I became friends years ago through one of the malamute lists. When she was coming from Japan to our area to visit friends, she wanted to see a dog show and I offered to take her. Before coming, she sent a picture of her "perfect malamute," some picture she found on the web ... who turned out to be Luna's daddy Flasher! (Ch. Quinault's Indecent Exposure WTDX, WPD). I had Luna at the show as a wee pup (8+ months old), Yasuko got to meet her, and a partnership was born.
Yasuko hoped for a boy ... and when the time came, Luna had 4 boys! So from the start we knew one would have a special journey ahead. That pup turned out to be Kobo, who had all the features Yasuko hoped for and the happy attitude that won hearts everywhere he went. He excelled beyond our wildest dreams both in the ring & on the racing trail. He also - perhaps the accomplishment we are most proud of him for - changed the way many people looked at malamutes, showing they could have a large and gentle heart as big as their smile. Kobo, along with his new sister Sara, also proved that you could, indeed, have a multiple-malamte team in sprint racing that not only got along but suceeded as well! Kobo & Sara did phenomenally well, taking top placements in the purebred dog classes amongst more traditional "racing" breeds.
When he hit the ring in Japan, Kobo simply blew us away. In a relatively short show career of less than 2 years,
Kobo accomplished the extraordinary:
Kobo fared equally well when he came back to the US to show in 2008, earning his Am. Ch. in just 7 show weekends over a single summer, finishing with style by taking two 5-point majors on a specialty weekend. With these wins Kobo earned the AMCA #1 dog in the PNW (Pacific Northwest) and #2 overall class dog (nation-wide). In his sole outing as a special before flying back home, Kobo took BOB over some of the top malamutes in the country.
To say we're proud of Kobo ... would not do justice to the great pride and honor and love we have for Kobo.
A huge thank you and forever debt to his mom Yasuko, who made all this possible.

Kobo accomplished the extraordinary:
- Undefeated in all but his first & last show
- Group 1 at his second show
- BIS at a year old
- Reserve King at the largest International FCI Asian show
- King (Best Male) a month later at another large FCI show
- Several more group placements at nearly every show he attended, mostly Group 1s and 2s
- Several "Excellent" awards (select dogs from the BIS ring)
- 2005 and 2006 Pedigree Dog Award
- One of the Top 6 all-breed dogs in Japan in 2006, earning him an invitation to the Eukanuba National in Long Beach, CA where he also picked up his first two WD/BOW, over competition that went on to be the No. 1 malamute in the country
