Our Foundation - Our Matriarch - My Luna
*Luna is very near her Working Dog Register of Merit (ROM):
Hooch WTDX; Kobo WTD; Ranger WTDA; and Amore WTDA
Luna is my baby, the light of my life - and the foundation for Gryphon kennels. This special girl started leaving her mark on our world - and on the hearts of all she meets - from the very beginning.
Luna is not only a beautiful girl, but captures both exceptional intelligence and a gentle demeanor in one lovely package. She is surprisingly mellow in daily life, but yet demonstrates impressive drive and ability in harness, and in other chances to work (and play!) and show her stuff - she has a true joy de vivre !!
Luna has shown a natural aptitude for any form of work from early puppyhood, and will earnestly put her shoulder and heart to any task. She is also a most loyal companion. She was lead dog for many years before passing on that harness to her daughter Amore; is a dedicated hiking companion; and has proven a fabulous grandma, great-grandma and now great-great grandma, helping raise each successive litter and maintaining the extraordinary family pack groups we enjoy.
I have enjoyed and continue to enjoy great things with Luna. She is my heart dog. She is surprisingly willing and eager to please, yet with just enough of that malamute impishness to keep life interesting. She has also passed on her extraordinary, exceptional, indescribably special temperament to the succeeding generations, and we value and celebrate her contribution and legacy every single day.
This versatile puppy also made quite a debut in the show ring - in her very first show, at the ripe old age of 6 months and 1 day, she charmed the judge and started the road to her AKC Championship by taking Winners Bitch, Best of Winners and Best of Opposite. But, she decided she didn't really care for showing - and we were pretty busy doing working & training stuff for her first years. Luna had certainly proved herself both as a mother and a working dog. So rather than risk her health by keeping her intact indefinitely, or make her do something she didn't particularly enjoy, we retired her from the ring. Though, of course, there is a twist to the story we later discovered ... she didn't much care for showing ... until after she was spayed! ... and now enjoys coming out for veterans here & again (it's probably all the applause).
Luna is an extraordinary dog. There simply are no words to capture it, or the special "something" she has instilled in her doggie family, or the lives of those she touches. But those that have met her, know what a gift Luna is.
A huge forever thank you goes to Twila (Quinault) for gracing me with this beautiful, special soul.
